SW APPENDIX A: INITIAL SYSTEM STARTUP
WARNING:
Ensure all isolation valves are fully
open and that all vessel drains are fully closed prior to the startup of the
system. Ensure that all the RO Clean in
Place (CIP) Valves are fully closed.
STARTUP
SECOND WAVE STARTUP – CLARIFIER AND FILTER SKID.
- Ensure that First wave liquids off the microscreen are set to bypass the second wave.
- Adjust valving so that the filter skid discharge is set to send the liquids to the storage pit.
- Check that all drains and sample valves are closed.
- Ensure that all the tanks in the Second Wave are filled halfway including the Clarifier.
- Set the valving for the cartridge filter so that the water passes through the bypass piping rather than into the vessel.
- Get the First Wave running as per the First Wave Manual.
- Ensure filtrate is less than 1.5% of the inlet TSS. If the system is equipped with groCONTROL, press the HMI button on the P-150B-1/2 popup screen to change dosing from First Wave dosing (Filtrate TSS < 15% Inlet TSS) to Second Wave dosing (Filtrate TSS < 1.5% Inlet TSS).
- Once the First Wave has been optimized and running steady for 1hr, set the flow rate to the second wave from the HMI. The MOVs will automatically adjust and start feeding filtrate to the clarifier.
- Place the antiscalant pump (P-270) in Auto.
- Place the clarifier sludge pump and Cartridge filter pump (P-220 & P-210) in Auto. Ensure that the sludge pump discharge is set to send to liquid storage.
- Once the Clarifier is full, ensure that the weir plates are flowing evenly across all the holes.
- Let the Clarifier run for 20 minutes, then take readings at the three clarifier sample valves and adjust as per the Clarifier Operation section of the manual.
- Change the sludge pump discharge to begin sending back to the inlet for reprocessing.
- Open the isolation valving to allow liquid into the cartridge filter vessel. Remove the plug from the lid to bleed air out and replace.
- Take TSS readings before and after the Cartridge filter to ensure proper operation.
- If the above 2 steps are within allowable ranges, proceed to starting up the RO. If not, adjust first wave operation and ensure the clarifier sludge pump flow is set correctly.
- Ensure the Globe Valve (GV-1) is opened all the way.
- SECOND WAVE STARTUP - REVERSE OSMOSIS
- Place
the RO pumps (P-290A, P-290B, P-320) in Auto
- Open
valve to send Cartridge filter discharge to the RO feed tank (V-280) and close
the valve allowing Cartridge filter discharge to go to the storage pit
- The
RO Feed Pumps (P-290A and P-290B) should start up
- Once liquid starts flowing through
FQIT-3006, slowly begin closing GV-1 until the recovery rate is ~70%.
- Watch system to ensure pumps are running
steady and not cycling on and off.
- Record all the pressure gauge values for
a baseline value.
