2. SYSTEM STARTUP AND SHUTDOWN

WARNING: Ensure all isolation valves are fully open and that all vessel drains are fully closed prior to the startup of the system. Ensure that all the RO Clean in Place (CIP) Valves are fully closed.

For Initial Startup of the Second Wave, Refer to Appendix A.

STARTUP
  1. SYSTEM STARTUP
    1. Check that all drains and sample valves are closed
    2. Ensure the Emergency Stop Device (ESD) Button on the control panel is pulled out
    3. Clear any alarms from the system
    4. Ensure First Wave is running properly as per the First Wave Manual
    5. Place the antiscalant pump (P-270) in Auto
    6. Place the RO pumps (P-290A, P-290B, P-320) in Auto
    7. Place the sludge pump (P-220) in Auto
    8. Adjust First Wave Discharge Valves to direct flow to the Second Wave
SHUTDOWN
  1. SYSTEM SHUTDOWN
  1. The system is shut down by placing the inlet feed pump (P-120) in OFF
  2. After shutting down the inlet feed pump, allow the system to pump down the water in the remaining tanks. Once all the tanks have pumped down to their low level conditions, the ESD button can be pressed.
EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN
In the event of a system upset, the operator can immediately shutdown the system by pressing the Emergency Shutdown Button (ESD) located on the front of the main control panel. Pressing this button will immediately stop all the pumps in the system.
Info
NOTE: The RO Feed pumps will gradually slowdown in all cases even in the event of an emergency shutdown condition.
