SYSTEM STARTUP AND SHUTDOWN

WARNING: Before starting up the system, ensure that all isolation valves are fully open, and all vessel drains are fully closed. Refer to Appendix C for initial startup procedures.

STARTUP

Before initiating the system startup, follow these steps:

  1. Check that all drains and sample valves are closed.

  1. Ensure the Emergency Shutdown (ESD) button is pulled out.

  1. Clear any alarms from the system.

  1. Place the chemical feed pump (P-150B-1) in the "AUTO" mode.

  1. Place the Microscreen (G-170-1, P-170-1) in the " AUTO " mode.

  1. Place the screw press (SP-130-1) in the " AUTO " mode.
  2. Repeat the above steps for any P/G/SP-XXX-2 if operating a FW-185 system

  1. Place the inlet feed pump (P-120) in the " AUTO " mode. The pump should start and begin feeding water into the system.

1. ADJUSTING THE INLET FEED PUMP FLOW RATE

  1. The inlet feed pump is equipped with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to adjust the flow rate.

  1. Adjust the pump speed through the touchscreen interface.

  1. Verify the new flow rate using the flow meter mounted on the pump discharge.

  • After adjusting the flow rate, the chemical feed pumps will automatically adjust their flow rates accordingly.

2. ADJUSTING THE TRANSFER PUMPS

To adjust the other pumps in the system, you can use either of the following methods:

  • Move the throttling or bypass valves located in their discharge lines.
  • Adjust the speed of the motor using the VFD Controls.

SYSTEM SHUTDOWN

To properly shut down the system, follow these steps:

  • Place the inlet feed pump (P-120) in the "OFF" position.
  • After shutting down the inlet feed pump, allow the system to pump down the water in the filtrate tank. Once the tank has been pumped down to its setpoint, you can proceed to the next step.
  • Press the Emergency Shutdown (ESD) button located on the front of the main control panel. This button is used to initiate an immediate shutdown of all pumps in the system.

EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN

In the event of a system upset or emergency, you can perform an immediate shutdown by following these steps:

  • Locate the Emergency Shutdown Button (ESD) on the front of the main control panel.
  • Press the ESD button. This action will immediately stop all pumps in the system.
