8. LAB ANALYSIS

8. LAB ANALYSIS

The touch screen is programmed to continuously upload data to LWR's server every 5 minutes for analysis, provided the internet connection is working. This includes flow data and TSS values if grõCONTROL is included. The operator will also need to complete the following lab tests on different samples from the process. The lab equipment list is provided in the Appendix of the manual. The following lists the procedures for each individual sample type and location.

Info
Ensure accurate measurements by following proper sampling and laboratory techniques.

TOTAL SUSPENDED SOLIDS (TSS) MEASUREMENT

  1. Take a 500mL grab sample from the process piping after the influent pump but before the screw press liquids return.
    1. Open the first sample port valve on the inlet piping.
    2. Allow the manure to flow for 2 minutes before grabbing the 500mL sample.
    3. Close the sample port valve.
  2. Dilute the sample by adding 5mL of the sample into 495mL of clean water.
  3. Stir the diluted sample thoroughly to ensure proper mixing.
  4. Turn on the DR 900 Colorimeter and select program 630.
  5. Pour the mixed, diluted sample into a clean 25mL sample cell, filling it up to the 25mL mark.
  6. Prepare a second clean 25mL sample cell with 25mL of clean water.
  7. Wipe the exterior of both sample cells with a clean microfiber or other non-abrasive cloth
  8. Zero the colorimeter using the clean water sample cell.
  9. Measure the diluted sample using the colorimeter and multiply the obtained result by 100 to obtain the influent manure TSS measurement.
TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS (TDS) MEASUREMENT
  1. A 500mL grab sample is taken from the process piping after the influent pump but prior to the chemical injection train
  2. Fill a beaker to the 400mL mark with clean water
  3. Using the hand held TDS meter measure the clean water TDS
  4. Add 5mL of influent manure to the clean water beaker
  5. Fill the beaker with clean water to the 500mL mark
  6. Stir the sample to ensure it’s well mixed
  7. Measure the diluted sample with the hand held TDS meter
  8. Subtract the difference between the diluted sample TDS measurement and the clean water TDS measurement
  9. Multiply the result by 100 to get the influent manure TDS measurement
CONDUCTIVITY (EC) MEASUREMENT
  1. A 500mL grab sample is taken from the process piping after the influent pump but prior to the chemical injection train
  2. Fill a beaker to the 400mL mark with clean water
  3. Using the hand held Electrical Conductivity (EC) meter measure the clean water conductivity.
  4. Add 5mL of influent manure to the clean water beaker
  5. Fill the beaker with clean water to the 500mL mark
  6. Stir the sample to ensure it’s well mixed
  7. Measure the diluted sample with the hand held EC meter
  8. Subtract the difference between the diluted sample EC measurement and the clean water EC measurement
  9. Multiply the result by 100 to get the influent manure conductivity measurement
MICROSCREEN FILTRATE TSS MEASUREMENT

  1. Take a 500mL grab sample from the process piping after filtrate pump.
    1. Open the sample port valve on the filtrate piping.
    2. Allow the filtrate to flow for 2 minutes before grabbing the 500mL sample.
    3. Close the sample port valve.
  2. Turn on the DR 900 Colorimeter and select program 630.
  3. Pour the sample into a clean 25mL sample cell, filling it up to the 25mL mark.
  4. Prepare a second clean 25mL sample cell with 25mL of clean water.
  5. Wipe the exterior of both sample cells with a clean microfiber or other non-abrasive cloth
  6. Zero the colorimeter using the clean water sample cell.
  7. Measure the sample using the colorimeter to obtain the filtrate TSS measurement.
  8. If the sample measures as "Over Limit (OL)" it must be diluted.
    1. Mix the original sample thoroughly and add 10mL to the sample cell.
    2. Fill the sample cell to the 25mL mark with clean water.
    3. Measure the diluted sample using the colorimeter and multiply by 2.5 to obtain the filtrate TSS measurement.
FINE SOLID SEPARATION TANK EFFLUENT TSS MEASUREMENT
  1. Take a 500mL grab sample from the process piping before the cartridge filter.
    1. Open the sample port valve on the piping.
    2. Allow the effluent to flow for 2 minutes before grabbing the 500mL sample.
CARTRIDGE FILTER EFFLUENT TSS MEASUREMENT
